Alvor is a pretty Portuguese fishing town that has developed responsibly into a relaxed and mature holiday destination. The town is situated on the banks of the Odiáxere River and within walking distance of one of the largest sandy beaches of southern Portugal. Alvor has a distinctive Portuguese appearance with traditional white washed houses, narrow cobled streets and small fishing boats that are pulled up along the banks of the river on the beach. The town centre is filled with restaurants, cafes and bars for all styles and tastes.
But, here you also have some of the finest beaches of the Western Algarve with the unique elevated walkways that cross the sand dunes and mud flats of the Ria do Alvor Nature Reserve. These pathways provide pleasant walks with scenic views over the estuary, which is a haven for bird life.
From Alvor it's just a short drive to visit the towns of Portimão with Aqua Shopping Center, the historic centre of Lagos and to Praia da Rocha - the place to be for a party night, as this place is crammed packed with themed bars and late night venues.
